Utilizing aggressive aluminum wire alloys (8177,1350,6201, and 5154) as well as 7075 as a control and the addition of a salt flux, 86% alumina cement-bonded castables as well as 88% alumina phos-bonded castables were tested at more than 2100°F for 72 hours in precast and dried cups. The cups were sectioned in half and the penetration of alloy was measured and photographed. The test showed that phos-bonded castables resist penetration by wire alloys better than cement-bonded castables as a whole.
