This paper deals with the problem of obtaining wire from zinc alloys in order to obtain dissolved surgical threads. Three types of materials were analyzed – pure zinc, zinc with the addition of 1% magnesium, and bimetallic wire based on zinc and magnesium. A workpiece for the drawing process (diameter 2 mm) is obtained using an extrusion process. The wiredrawing is performed at room temperature up to diameters of 1.0 and 0.3 mm. Mechanical tests, including relaxation tests, were performed on the obtained wire.
